Local Indie Designer Mr. Wingate Commissioned To Produce Exclusive Range of T-Shirts For Off The Beaten Track Boutique
London 16th September 2008 – Never mind Where’s Wally? Where’s Cockfighter of Bermondsey? That is the answer to both questions! Urban boutique Cockfighter based in Bermondsey has commissioned fashion designer, Sam Wingate (A.K.A. Mr Wingate) to create an exclusive contemporary range of t-shirts based upon global pop culture icon Where’s Wally?®. The commission celebrates both the 21st birthday of the Where’s Wally? brand in September 2008.
Sam has produced three Where’s Wally?® designs that will be available exclusively at Cock & Magpie later this month. The initial production run of three designs will be limited to 150, ensuring that the t-shirts become immediate collectibles.
Lucy Linden, Owner and Director, Cockfighter said:: “We are delighted to stock the new exclusive Where’s Wally? ® T-shirt range. Sam has given the designs an edge which will prove popular with our fashion savvy crowd. As the T-shirts move about London, it should create a buzz which will inspire girls and guys to find us.”
Sam Wingate, commenting on the project said: “The Where’s Wally books contain a lot of patterns within the individual pictures and I saw this as a great opportunity to incorporate my own style of repeat patterns as well manage the space on the fabric, complementing the Where’s Wally brand. Cock & Magpie collections incorporate urban landscapes and fit well with my approach to design.”
Twenty-five year old Sam Wingate is among the UK’s hottest design talents. Based in East London, Sam trained at Norwich Art School and specialised in textile design. He now runs a fledgling business from his studio in E9. His range of original designs can currently be found on t-shirts, sweats and bags, all of which are sold in Brick Lane.
Sam’s successes include the placement of a collection of his exclusive digital wallpaper designs at DKNY’s flagship store New Bond Street, as well as having produced original wallpaper designs for Arup Engineering, the elite architectural firm responsible for London’s ‘Gherkin’ and the iconic Opera House, in Sydney. Sam has recently been featured in Drapers magazine as a ‘designer to watch out for’ and exhibited at the Margin Trade Show. (www.wingateprint.com/ )
